Proyecto Periplo Renewed: Advancing Responsible Recruitment in Mexico’s Agricultural Sector
Stronger Together is delighted to announce our continued participation in the multi-stakeholder collaborative project PERIPLO, led by Fundación Avina. The recently secured funding for 2026–2027 will enable the project to further its work to advance the adoption of responsible recruitment practices, labour migration standards, and human rights due diligence across Mexico’s agro-industrial sector.
Here, Angélica Barrera Nava, Programme Manager of Stronger Together Mexico explains the latest updates and opportunities within the programme, including a new Multistakeholder Forum planned for September 2026.
A Collaborative Initiative in Mexico with Regional Reach
What is PERIPLO?
PERIPLO Mexico aims to contribute to a fairer agricultural labour migration system within Mexico’s supply chains, and between Mexico and the United States, with a view to protecting the labour rights of migrant agricultural workers.
The project brings together a broad range of organisations each bringing its own expertise towards common goals across three key workstreams of advocacy, worker voice and private sector engagement.

The Strategic Role of Stronger Together
Stronger Together, an active member of the PERIPLO project since its launch in 2021, supports the private sector to implement and strengthen human rights due diligence through practical guidance, training and tools, founded in international standards and tailored to the operational realities of the private sector in Mexico. Our participation includes the following activities:
- Publication of practical guides and tools: Developing and distributing practical resources to support agricultural businesses to implement best practice around labour rights, responsible recruitment, and fair labour practices.
- Open informative webinars and events: On the implementation of human rights due diligence in accordance with international standards.
- Facilitation of the PERIPLO Business & Human Rights working group
- Conveying a Multi-Stakeholder Forum in Mexico
Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Business and Human Rights
Mexico City — September 2026
Planned for the end of September 2026 in Mexico City, the Forum will bring together agro-industrial businesses, civil society organisations, governmental bodies, and international actors to:
- Promote international labour practices related to responsible recruitment, labour migration, and human rights due diligence
- Generate multisectoral peer-to-peer exchange of good practices at both national and international levels
- Develop applied recommendations and sectoral standards on responsible recruitment and labour migration for the region
- Strengthen strategic partnerships that sustain systemic change beyond the project cycle
Organised with support from partners, the Forum will be an exchange and learning event, designed to advance the international business and human rights agenda in Mexico.
