Multi-Stakeholder Forum Responsible Labour Recruitment in Mexico

Stronger Together is running a forum on 23 September, in Mexico City: ‘Foro Multilateral sobre Empresas y Derechos Humanos’ in collaboration with Periplo, Avina, Aifhores and Cietro.  This landmark gathering brings together agri-food businesses, civil society organisations, government bodies, and international actors to advance responsible recruitment, labour migration, and human rights due diligence across agricultural supply chains in Mexico.

The Forum aims to generate a sector-wide exchange of good practices at both national and international level, and to develop applied recommendations and sector standards on responsible recruitment and labour migration for the region.

As due diligence expectations around forced labour and responsible sourcing continue to grow, this is a rare opportunity to engage directly with supply chain partners and peer organisations shaping the standards that will define the sector.

The main outcomes of the forum are to:

  • Advance the national and international agenda on business and human rights in Mexico, emphasising that labour and environmental rights are an essential part of this agenda.
  • Identify regulatory trends for agro-industrial companies to export and diversify their markets, with a focus on labour and human rights
  • Facilitate the exchange of responsible practices at national and regional levels across North America, highlighting corporate and supply chain innovation that improves the well-being of workers
  • Promote international labour practices relating to responsible recruitment, labour migration and human rights due diligence, with a view to having a positive impact on workers.
  • Share practical recommendations and sectoral standards on responsible recruitment and labour migration for the regional supply chain
  • Strengthen strategic partnerships to sustain long-term strategic change in the region
