Stronger Together, together with our Construction Programme Sponsor, Sky and Main Contractor, ISG, have published a case study documenting what was learnt whilst taking an open and collaborative approach throughout the construction of Sky Labs, now known as the Sky Innovation Centre, on Sky’s West London Campus.
The intention of this unique and pioneering partnership has been to develop greater understanding of labour exploitation, modern slavery, and effective mitigation in construction. We’ve sought opportunities to learn and develop approaches that can be adopted in future projects and shared with the industry through the case study.
Construction has already been identified as a high-risk sector for modern slavery and the challenges posed by Covid-19 and reduced labour supply meant that maintaining this supportive and collaborative approach was critical. The project focussed on the three partners working together to improve due diligence and develop worker engagement.
Pamela Zielinski, Stronger Together’s Construction Programme Manager, stated: “Working with Sky and ISG on the Sky Innovation Centre project presented a unique opportunity for Stronger Together to collaborate through training and consultancy during an active construction project. Sky set the scene from the beginning, bringing a real focus on partnership, not only between the three main parties but with those in the broader supply chain.”
Diana Foxlee, Group Director, Sky Spaces, stated: “We’re delighted to have been working with Stronger Together and ISG to develop a good practice model for the role brands can play in collaborating on modern slavery from pre-contract to completion.”
